Rolex Watch Model: Ladies Rolex President

The Ladies Rolex President are the top of the line watches. It is the most expensive line of Rolex watches and thus the most prestigious. They come in all platinum, 18 karat white gold or 18 karat yellow gold. You could choose anyone of them depending on your personal taste. The one featured on your right is made in 18 Karat White Gold with a Blue Diamond Dial. It has a High Polished Bezel. This particular bracelet is an all 18 Karat White Gold Jubilee Bracelet. The Jubilee Bracelet has two different polish to it. The center of the links has a High Finish and the sides have Matté finish. Now the beauty of Rolex is that you can change the dial, the bezel, the bracelet and almost everything you see on the exterior of the watch to what you like. Let me explain this. If you do not like a blue diamond dial, then you have the choice of changing it. It also comes in white with or without the diamonds. You also have the choice of having arabic numbers or roman numerals on the face. If you do not like the Jubilee Bracelet then you can change that also into an Oyster Bracelet. The Oyster Bracelet has a more sporty look to it and hence available with Rolex's line of sports watches. The Jubilee bracelet on the other hand is more like a dress accesory than for sports. Once again personal taste is the matter. If you like the Oyster more than the Jubilee then there is nothing wrong with that. When worn on the wrist they both look good to me. The Oyster Bracelet is featured in the following pages if you want to compare it with the Jubilee.

The two watches at the bottom are Lady's Presidents. The difference as you can see between them is that one is White Gold and the other is Yellow Gold. As I mentioned before, you can play around with Rolex watches. The perfect example are these two. The one in White Gold has Diamond Lugs and a Diamond Bezel. As compared to the Blue Face which has a high polish bezel and no diamond lugs. The White Gold One has a Diamond Jubilee Dial. When examined closely you will see Rolex written all over the dial. I personally don't like it. It is like flashing the name all over if somebody is looking at your watch. The Jubilee Dial is more like a "Flaunting Dial". I like a subtle and decent look. The Yellow Gold President has a Roman Numeral Dial. The Bracelet is the Yellow Golf Version of the Jubilee Bracelet. Once again, Diamond Lugs and Diamond Bezel. The pictures do not do justice to the actual watches. My favourite combination for the Lady's President would be the White Gold President with Roman Numerals. The watch must have a diamond dial and diamond lugs. The price is high but the watch for a Lady is an epitome of Success. A woman wearing such a watch would definitely have style and class.

Rolex Watch Model: Day Date 118239

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Day-Date - aka The Presidential
Reference: 118239
Series: Z
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3155
Water Resistance: 330ft./100 m.
Case: white gold
Crystal: Sapphire
Notes: The Day-Date was launched in 1956 and has changed very little in the decades since, having becoming Rolex's flag ship model. A true luxury watch, the Day-Date is only offered in gold or platinum, and is considered a symbol of both achievement and status. The gold variations retail for approximately $25,000.00 (without diamons) with the all-platinum variant retailing for over $40,000.00. Because the watch has changed very little over the years, a large supply of pre-owned models exist on the secondary markets - it is not uncommon to find gold Day-Dates for approximately half the new retail price and in excellent condition.

Rolex Watch Model: Ladies Datejust 69173

Water Resistance: 330 ft./100 m.
Case: Two-tone, 904L grade Stainless steel with solid 18k gold bezel, and 18k gold crown
Crystal: Sapphire
Notes: This model 69173 was presented to my wife as a wedding gift last year, much to her delight and is now her "daily driver." Like the men's Datejust line, the ladies 69173 comes in a variety of dial choices, with the gold dial by far the most popular. After purchasing the watch, I had it serviced and it is running flawlessly.

Rolex Watch Model: Rolex Datejust 16013

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Datejust
Reference: 16013
Series: 890xxxx (pre-letter serial number circa 1984)
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3035
Water Resistance: 330 ft./100 m.
Case: Two-tone, 904L grade Stainless steel with solid 18k gold bezel, and 18k gold crown
Crystal: Acrylic (plastic)
Notes: Datejust is part of Rolex's Oyster Precision line of watches, and makes an ideal dress watch, yet is every bit as robust as many of the models in the sportier Oyster Professional line. Most experts agree that the Datejust is Rolex's best selling watch line, and there is no shortage of supply of these models in the secondary market. Prices for vintage models, especially pre-sapphire crystal models represent an incredible value.

Rolex Watch Model: Yacht Master 16622

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Yacht Master
Reference: 16622
Series: F
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3135
Water Resistance: 330 ft./100 m.
Case: Stainless steel w/platinum bezel
Crystal: Sapphire
Notes: The Yacht-Master has the notable distinction of being the first Rolex to receive the new "Maxi Dial" - enlarged markers and a fatter minute hand. The embossed bezel and the dial are made entirely of platinum. The Oyster bracelet has a polished center link like the Daytona. Also like the Dayton, the Oyster Professional bracelet that on the Yacht-Master has solid center links (not hollow). Even though the watch has a Triplock crown, the water resistance rating is only 100m, the bezel rotates in both directions, and the fliplock clasp does not have a dive suite extension.

Rolex Watch Model: GMT Master II 16710

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: GMT Master II
Reference: 16710
Series: Y
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3185
Water Resistance: 330 ft./100 m.
Case: 903L grade Stainless steel
Crystal: Synthetic sapphire
Notes: The original GMT Master was created by Rolex back in the 1950's in conjunction with Pan Am airline as a tool to help their pilots who frequently crossed time zones. The Master II was introduced in the mid-1980's, and eventually replaced the original GMT Master (discontinued in 1999). Rolex purists have great affection for the GMT Master II as a tool watch with a great history and tradition among professional pilots.

Rolex Watch Model: Explorer II 16570

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Explorer II
Reference: 16570
Series: Y
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3185

Crystal: Synthetic sapphire
Notes: The Explorer II is one of Rolex's newer models, having been introduced in 1971 as a supplement to the original Rolex Explorer, and with the current model 16570 having been introduced in 1989. The Explorer II was designed for cave exploration, or any other sort of extended expeditions where the wearer would need a reliable way to determine day from night. The red "GMT" hand used in conjunction with the 24 hr. markings on the bezel serve this purpose.

Reference: 16600
Series: F
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3135
Water Resistance: 4000 ft./1220 m.

Notes: The Sea-Dweller is appreciated not only by true professional divers, but also by many Rolex purists who prefer the it to the more commonplace stainless steel Submariner model 16610. Due to the increased thickness of the sapphire crystal on the Sea-Dweller, Rolex is unable to fit a functional date magnification bubble on the watch.

Rolex Model: Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary Edition

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Submariner - 50th Anniversary Edition
Reference: 16610 LV (Lunette Verde)
Series: D
Movement: Rolex Caliber 3135
Water Resistance: 1000 ft./300 m.
Case: 904L grade Stainless steel.
Crystal: Synthetic sapphire
Notes: The Submariner 16610 LV, or "Lunette Verde" was issued in 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Submariner, arguably the greatest diver watch ever created, and certainly the most famous. While initially thought to be a limited edition model, the LV Submariner has remained in production since its introduction. There are only cosmetic differences between the LV Submariner, and the regular black bezel counterpart - the bezel color, markers, and hands are the only difference. The LV Submariner uses the Rolex "Maxi Dial" large size hands and markers, first introduced on the Yacht-Master.

Rolex Model: Rolex Submariner 16613

SPECIFICATIONS:

Model: Submariner
Reference: 16613
Series: F

Water Resistance: 1000 ft./300 m.
Case: Two-tone, 904L grade Stainless steel with solid 18k gold bezel, and 18k gold crown
Crystal: Synthetic sapphire
Notes: The Submariner 16613 is perhaps my favorite Rolex, and I consider it a privilege and blessing to own it. I purchased it new from an authorized dealer in May of 2004. It combines unmistakably Rolex defining beauty, which sport/diving watch functionality. Because I daily wear large, 40mm+ sport watches, I'm not fond of most small, thin dress watches. So my Submariner is most often worn for dress duty during the week, though most purists frown upon wearing a sport watch with a suit.

Rolex sells less expensive watches under the "Tudor" brand name, which was introduced by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf in 1946. While still sold in Europe and the Far East, American sales of the Tudor line were discontinued in 2004.

Rolex is the largest manufacturer of Swiss made certified chronometers. In 2005 more than half the annual production of COSC certified watches were Rolexes.

Rolex watches vary in price according to the model and the materials used. The Oyster steel models vary from USD $4,500 to $9,200, while the Submariner gold models vary from $20,000 to $28,000.

In the UK, the steel 'sports' range starts from a retail (MSRP) of ~£3000 upwards.

Rolex: Innovations

Among the company's innovations are the first waterproof watch case; the first wristwatch with a date on the dial; the first watch to show two time zones at once; and the first watchmakers to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch. To date, Rolex still holds the record for the most certified chronometer movements in the category of wristwatches.
Rolex participated in the development of the original quartz watch movements. Although Rolex has made very few quartz models for its Oyster line, the company's engineers were instrumental in design and implementation of the technology during the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1968, Rolex collaborated with a consortium of 16 Swiss watch manufacturers to develop the Beta 21 quartz movement used in their Rolex Quartz Date 5100. Within about five years of research, design, and development, Rolex created the "clean-slate" 5035/5055 movement that would eventually power the Rolex Oysterquartz. The first self-winding Rolex watch was offered to the public in 1931, preceded to the market by Harwood which patented the design in 1923 and produced the first self-winding watch in 1928, powered by an internal mechanism that used the movement of the wearer's arm. This not only made watch-winding unnecessary, but eliminated the problem of over-winding a watch and harming its mechanism. Rolex was also the first watch company to create the first water resistant watch to 330 feet. Wilsdorf even had a specially made Rolex watch attached to the side of the Trieste bathyscaphe, which went to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. The watch survived and tested as having kept perfect time during its descent and ascent. This was confirmed by a telegram sent to Rolex the following day saying "Am happy to confirm that even at 11,000 metres your watch is as precise as on the surface. Best regards, Jacques Piccard".

Rolex has also made a reputation in watches suitable for the extremes of deep-sea diving, aviation and mountain climbing. Early sports models included the Rolex submariner and the Oyster Perpetual Sea Dweller 2000 (in 1971). This watch had a helium release valve, co-invented with Swiss watchmaker Doxa, to release helium gas build-up during decompression. Another sports model is the Rolex GMT Master II, originally developed at the request of Pan Am Airways to assist pilots in transcontinental flights. The Explorer and Explorer II were developed specifically for explorers who would navigate rough terrain—such as the world famous Everest Expeditions. At the moment Rolex possesses sole rights stores in many urban centres of the world, such as: Toronto, Paris, London, New York, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Tokyo, Dubai, and Wellington, among others.

Rolex 24 at Daytona - The 'Unofficial' Start to the NASCAR Season

Can't wait. To me this has been the 'unofficial' kick-off to the NASCAR season since 2001 (Dale Earnhardt raced in that one) because of all of the NASCAR drivers, and now NASCAR team owners (i.e. RCR), that participate in the race.

Chuck Yeager in 1953: Rolex Watch Review

Since we were on the subject of Captian Chesley Sullenberger who began his career in the Air Force flying F-4 Phantom II fighter planes, I thought I would share this photo of Chuck Yeager that was taken at Edwards Air Force Base Test Flight Center in 1953–and of course Chuck is wearing his trusted Rolex.

This photo was taken 56 years ago and Chuck Yeager still wears a Rolex to this day. When he broke the sound barrier in 1947 he was also wearing his Rolex Oyster which was 62 years ago.
